Re: Impaired Driving Press Conference

WHAT: The Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office will hold a news conference to kick off the enforcement blitz for its impaired drivers end-of-summer/Labor Day campaign. A new national slogan and logo will be unveiled.

WHERE: Arkansas Police Training Facility Bi-State Justice Center 100 N. State Line Avenue Texarkana, AR

WHEN: Tuesday, August 15, 1:30 p.m.

WHO: The Arkansas State Police and more than 100 participating state and local law enforcement agencies will provide “high visibility enforcement” and join more than 12,000 law enforcement agencies across the country in a nationwide crackdown on drunk drivers.

Speakers for the news conference include:

• Colonel Steve Dozier, Arkansas State Police Director and Governor’s Highway Safety Representative

• Captain Ron Stovall, Troop G Commander

• Chief Robert Harrison, Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department

• Interim Chief Danny Presley, Texarkana, Texas Police Department

WHY: Impaired driving is one of America’s most-often-committed and deadliest crimes. In 2004 more than 15,000 people nationally died in highway crashes involving a driver or motorcycle operator with a blood concentration (BAC) of .01 or higher. Of those, nearly 13,000 were in crashes where the driver’s BAC was .08 or higher.
