Re: Rape Arrest

On 3/13/06 at 2:30am Texarkana Arkansas Police Officers were dispatched to Wadley Hospital in reference to a possible rape. During the course of the investigation it was discovered that the victim had had a prior relationship with the suspect and she identified him as Marzell Woodberry (b/m/39 Texarkana, AR).

The victim advised that she was visiting a friend at a residence in the 400 block of Park St. When the victim returned to her vehicle she discovered that the suspect was already in the car. The suspect reportedly convinced the victim that he only wanted to talk to her and that he would drive her home. The victim agreed to let the suspect drive and shortly after leaving the scene the suspect began punching the victim in the face. The suspect drove the victim's vehicle toward Broad street and then turned north on Broad.

The victim was able to jump out of the vehicle near the Ritz Motel on East Broad street and she then ran from the suspect on foot. (It is unknown what speed the vehicle was travelling when the victim jumped out). At this point the suspect began chasing the victim in the vehicle and subsequently hit a tree near the Ritz Motel. He then exited the vehicle and began chasing the victim on foot.

The victim states that the suspect caught her and took her into an area near a vacant house where he proceeded to beat and rape her. After this the victim was able to convince the suspect to let her go and she then drove herself to Wadley Hospital.

After obtaining the suspect information from the victim, officers were able to locate Woodberry at his residence on E.18th street. Marzell Woodberry was arrested and charged with Rape, Kidnapping, and Domestic Battery 3rd.. He was transported to the Bi-State Jail and no bond has been set at this time, pending his first court appearance.
