Re: Crack Cocaine Arrest

At 5:30pm on 2/26/06 officer Nick Elrod was on patrol near the 400 block of Williams-Taylor Street when he observed a vehicle sitting in the parking lot next to a building in the 1500 block of Preston St. The building is a night club and was closed at the time that this incident occurred. Officer Elrod noticed that a subject was leaning into the passenger window of the vehicle and was behaving suspiciously.

Upon investigating the vehicle, the officer discovered that it was occupied by a male and female. The male front seat passenger was observed to be covering up two car stereos in his lap with his jacket and he continued to attempt to reach underneath the jacket. The male passenger was identified as Lamarcus Leaks (b/m/22 Texarkana, TX). Based on the passengers actions and for officer safety concerns, officer Elrod had the two individuals exit the vehicle for a pat down search for weapons.

The driver of the vehicle advised that she had obtained the stereos from a car dealer and she consented to a search of her vehicle. Officer Elrod located a plastic baggie in between the seat and console of the vehicle which contained approximately 2.5 grams of a substance believed to be crack cocaine. In addition to this, a small "rock" of suspected crack cocaine was found under Leaks' jacket in the front seat of the vehicle. The street value of the suspected narcotics is $500.00.

Leaks was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver and he was taken to the Bi-State Jail. No bond has been set at this time. The female driver of the vehicle was released at the scene.
