Officers with the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department will be out in full force over the New Years weekend enforcing the traffic laws as needed to ensure the safety of the public. In addition to the normal violations encountered, officers will be aggressively looking for those drivers under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants. DWI checkpoints will also be conducted at undisclosed locations throughout the weekend.
We encourage voluntary compliance and ask that if anyone plans to drink that they use a designated driver and do not get behind the wheel of a car. As a reminder, the legal blood alcohol limit in Arkansas is .08% and driving while intoxicated laws are strictly enforced by the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department.
Additionally, the use of seat belts is not only encouraged but also required by Arkansas state laws. State law requires the use of child safety seats for those under the age of 6 or 60 lbs. for children riding in vehicles being operated on the roadways of Arkansas. These laws are strictly enforced by members of this department.
