On 11/10/05 at 11:30am officers made a routine bus check at the Greyhound Bus Station at 405 E.51st. Officer Kevin Bounds and his K-9 partner "Bruno" along with officer John Gibbert boarded an eastbound bus and conducted an "open air" search of the passenger and luggage compartment of the bus. K-9 "Bruno" alerted on a bag that had been left unattended at the back of the bus. At this time officers did not open the bag.
The passengers were allowed to return to their seats at which point the officers reboarded the bus and asked who owned the bag. Noone on the bus claimed ownership of the bag and it was sitting under a seat that was unoccupied. It was at this point that the bag was removed and examined. The bag contained four freezer bags that contained a substance believed to be marijuana. In addition to this, a pair of socks were located in the bag with the initials "E.R." written on them in ink. Two men were sitting in the seats directly in front of the bag and they agreed to speak to officers in reference to the bag.
When questioned, one of the subjects identified himself as Emmanuel Ramirez (h/m/25 yoa Mansfield, TX). His initials matched those on the socks that had been located in the bag. Ramirez consented to allow officers to examine the socks that he was wearing. In doing so officers discovered that one of Ramirez' socks contained a plastic bag that contained a substance believed to be powder cocaine. Ramirez was arrested for two counts of possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver. Each charge is a felony and no bond has been set at this time.
During inventory the suspected marijuana weighed in at 4 lbs. with a street value of approximately $4000.00. The suspected cocaine weighed 5 grams with a street value of approximately $400.00.
