Re: Stabbing at Chapel Ridge Apts.

On Saturday, Oct. 28 at 6:30am officers responded to a report of a disturbance in progress at 4717 County Avenue. Upon arriving to the scene officers learned that a male victim had been stabbed and had been taken to St. Michael Hospital for treatment. The victim, Calvin Smith (m/b/20yoa Texarkana, AR), had been driven to the hospital in a private vehicle. His condition was deteriorating as officers attempted to gain information from him and he was then rushed into surgery. Witnesses stated that the victim had been in his apartment arguing with his girlfriend, Latasha Hugle (f/b/29 yoa Texarkana, AR), when a physical altercation began. A third party separated the two and moved the victim to the back bedroom to calm down. Minutes later the victim emerged from the bedroom and approached Hugle again in the kitchen area of the apartment. The altercation resumed and it was during this time that Hugle retrieved a knife from one of the drawers and stabbed Smith in the neck. The victim ran from the apartment at which point a third party drove him to the hospital. The victim sustained massive blood loss and was in critical condition late Saturday evening. Crime scene investigators were called to photograph and process the scene.

After detectives conducted interviews with the suspect and witnesses, Hugle was placed under arrest for domestic battery 2nd and transported to the Bi-State jail. The suspect is awaiting a first appearance in court and no bond has been set at this time. Domestic Battery 2nd is a class C felony.

This case remains under investigation at this time.
