Re: Hit and Run Accident

On Saturday September 10, 2005 at approximately 9:00pm Texarkana Arkansas Police Department patrol officers responded to a report of a possible hit and run accident near the Greyhound Bus Station. Two pedestrians had been struck near this location on E.51st street and the suspect vehicle had reportedly fled eastbound on E.51st. Witnesses at the scene described the suspect vehicle as a dark colored sport utility vehicle.

While officers were in route to the hit and run it was discovered that a one vehicle accident had occurred on E.51st street, just east of the location of the hit and run. Officers discovered that a blue SUV had rolled over and landed on it's side near the intersection of E.51st street and Jefferson Avenue. Due to the crash, the driver of this vehicle had been trapped and was extracted by members of the Texarkana Arkansas Fire Dept. The driver of the vehicle was then transported by LifeNet ambulance to Christus St. Michael Hospital and was identified as Julia Gerber (W/F 41yrs. Texarkana, TX).

The victims in this case have been identified as Sheira Chavez (B/F 27yrs. OakGrove, KY), and LaJae Chavez (B/F 2yrs. OakGrove, KY). Both were transported to Christus St. Michael Hospital and were in fair condition at the time of this release .

After initial investigations were completed a felony warrant was obtained for the suspect driver. Julia Gerber was arrested for Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries. Gerber has been transferred to the Miller County jail and no bond has been set at this time. Further charges may be pending in this case.
