Re: Fatality Accident

On 9/02/05 at 2:30am officers were dispatched to a report of a vehicle accident on Loop 245 at Hwy. 82. Officers located a Dodge Neon that had been struck from behind and knocked off of the roadway. The impact caused the vehicle to catch on fire. There was heavy damage to the rear of the vehicle and by the time officers arrived on scene the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Hazel Henderson (w/f 47y.o.a. Texarkana, AR). Henderson had been in the vehicle at the time of the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Through initial investigation officers believe that Henderson had had a flat tire in the northbound lane of Loop 245. Henderson's vehicle had been stopped in the right hand northbound lane of the Loop and initial reports indicate that the vehicle's hazard lights were on. It is not know why the vehicle had not pulled to the shoulder. The vehicle was struck from behind by an 18 wheeler that was also travelling northbound on Loop 245. The driver of the 18-wheeler, whose name is not being released at this time, was not injured. The investigation of this accident is ongoing.
