At 10:15 this morning patrol officers responded to a report of a possible burglary at 1201 Arkansas Street. Upon arrival officers met with the victim, an elderly female, who reported that a subject had come to her door and stated that he was from the gas company and needed to check for leaks. The suspect was described as being very polite and he escorted the victim to the back of her residence and began examining a utility box behind the house. The suspect told the victim that he needed to go and get a tool from his vehicle at which point he walked around to the front of the house. The victim was left alone behind the residence and became suspicious of the suspect. She returned to the front of the house and saw the suspect speeding away in a small gray two-door car. Upon checking inside her residence the victim discovered that her purse and all of it's contents had been taken.
The suspect is described as a white male with black hair and a dark complexion. No clothing description was given. His identity is unknown at this time and it is possible that a second suspect may be assisting. The Texarkana Police Department reminds residents that utility workers will be identifiable by a uniform and in most cases a photo I.D. badge. A clearly marked utility vehicle is usually present as well. If an individual refuses to identify himself and give a telephone number for verification, or is not carrying proper identification, residents are encouraged to check with the utility company or dial 911 for a police officer.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department at (903)798-3130 or Crimestoppers at (903)793-STOP.
