Re: Public Internet Users Alert

The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department would like to alert the public of an Internet crime that some of the Texarkana community has fallen prey to. Frequent Internet users refer to the crime as “phishing”.

“Phishing” describes a message or email sent by a criminal falsely representing a financial institution or bank, asking for account numbers, usernames and passwords in order to gain access to the victims account.

These fraudulent Internet requests will have the banks name and official logos. The message may maintain that the bank is auditing their accounts or attempting to change user names and passwords.

Never submit your account numbers and passwords over the Internet. A credible bank or lending institution would never contact you for information about your account for auditing purposes over the Internet. You may have the ability to change your Internet banking password on-line but we suggest that you do this through person-to-person contact at the bank.
