On 01/31/05 at 1:05am Texarkana Arkansas night shift patrol officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Arkansas Blvd. Using the information provided by the caller, Officers Corwin Battle and Gabe Overstreet were able to locate and detain 22 year-old John Edward Smith of Texarkana Texas while he waited in a car. A subsequent search of the area led to officers catching 19 year-old Derek Reed Brown of Texarkana Texas in the act of burglarizing a vehicle. Brown fled from officers as they approached him but he was later located hiding near the crime scene. Once the two men had been arrested patrol officers located three vehicles that had been burglarized.
John Edward Smith and Derek Reed Brown were each charged with three counts of felony Breaking and Entering. No bond has been set at this time.
