Officers with the Texarkana Arkansas will be out in full force over the New Years weekend enforcing the traffic laws as needed to ensure the safety of the motoring public. In addition to the normal violations encountered, officers will have a keen eye out for those drivers under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicants and will be conducting a DWI checkpoint at an undisclosed location during the weekend.
We encourage voluntary compliance and ask that if anyone plans to drink that they not get behind the wheel and utilize a designated driver. As a reminder, the legal limit in Arkansas is now .08 and the driving while intoxicated laws are strictly enforced by the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department.
Additionally, the use of seat belts is not only encouraged but also required by Arkansas state laws. State law requires the use of child safety seats for those under the age of 6 or 60 lbs. for children riding in vehicles being operated on the roadways of Arkansas, these laws are strictly enforced by members of this department.
We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend and encourage you to arrive safely at whatever your destination may be.
