On 10/28/04 at 10:47pm Patrol Sergeant Keith Barr was in the 1200 block of Locust when he attempted to stop a black male, later identified as 43 year-old Sylvester Dudley of Texarkana Arkansas. Dudley was carrying car stereo equipment and began running when he saw Sgt. Barr. Sgt. Barr called for assistance as he lost site of Dudley running through a dark area. Sgt. Barr radioed to his location and the suspect’s description to his shift. A few minutes later a patrol officer spotted Dudley crossing a creek in the area. Other patrolmen surrounded the area and located Dudley and the stereo equipment near a utility substation.
During the time the officers were looking for the suspect a Texarkana Arkansas resident called to report a break-in of his vehicle. The victim reported that he approached the suspect in the act of stealing the stereo equipment and the suspect ran, carrying the stolen goods.
The victim positively identified Sylvester Dudley and the stolen property.
Dudley was arrested and charged with felony Breaking and Entering, Fleeing, Refusal to Submit to Arrest and Public Intoxication.
