Re: Animal Cruelty, A04-5900

Animal Services Officer Connie Perry responded to a call yesterday of alleged animal cruelty in the 2100 block of East Street. Dixie Wilson an animal advocate of the ARTEX Animal Welfare Association, who works closely with the Animal Services Section of the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, reported the alleged cruelty.

When Officer Perry performed an inspection of the living conditions she discovered that the dogs were chained up on short chains or in small cages, had no food or water and, were made to rest in their own feces.

The 52 year-old owner of the dogs received six citations for No Rabies Shots and Failure to Register the Dogs.

Due to the severity of the living conditions the dogs were removed from the home and are currently receiving care at the Animal Shelter. An investigation into the treatment of the animals is being conducted and further charges could include Animal Cruelty and Neglect.
