Officers with the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department will be pounding the pavement to participate in the 2004 Law Enforcement Torch Run on Tuesday, May 18, 2004. We invite you to come out and lend moral support to these officers and their efforts on behalf of the Arkansas Special Olympics Summer Games being held this year May 20 through 22, 2004 in Searcy, Arkansas.
TAPD officers will gather in front of and leave from the Wal-Mart Supercenter located on Arkansas Blvd. promptly at 8:00am. The route will take the officers East on Arkansas Blvd. to Arkansas Highway 67, then will continue north on Hwy 67 to the point where TAPD officers will meet up with Torch Run volunteers from the Arkansas State Police and Hope Police Department at the Red River bridge, a total distance of approximately 22 miles.
Torch Run law enforcement volunteers from each of the 4 corners of Arkansas will begin their runs at the exact same time with all routes eventually meeting in Little Rock on May 20th. A Torch Run culmination ceremony will be held at the River Market in Little Rock on that day.
This is the 15th straight year that the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department has been involved with the Torch Run and Special Olympics. This worthy event supports the Special Olympics by raising donations and showing the deep commitment of law enforcement to assist other less fortunate in our communities. Since the Torch Run’s inception in 1986, it has raised more than $2 million to help Special Olympics in the state of Arkansas.
