The popularity of small electrically motorized scooters has presented many retailers of these scooters and the public with questions of rules and regulations regarding their use on public streets or highways.
The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department would like to release the following information to the public about the use of electrically motorized scooters.
Persons wanting to operate the electric motorized bicycle on streets and highways must obtain a Motorized Bicycle Certificate issued by the Arkansas State Police at 305 E. 6th street. Testing will be conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30am to 11:30am and from 2:00pm to 4:30pm. The certification consists of a written test, vision test, and road test. The fee is $ 2.00 for the certificate. No persons who are 10 years old or young are eligible for use of such a vehicle. No persons may operate an electrically motorized scooter on any Interstates or Limited Access Highways.
All other types of license, such as a learners permit, intermediate, regular class D, motorcycle, and CDL will allow the licensed person to operate the motorized bicycle.
The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department encourages everyone to ride safely and use suitable safety equipment while using their scooters.
