DVD players in vehicles are becoming more and more common, usually to entertain children or passengers on long trips. But an increasing number of unscrupulous subjects are displaying pornographic material in public view of passing cars and pedestrian traffic, on the DVD players in their cars.
Imagine that you are driving with your children in the car, and you drive up along side another car, suddenly you and your children are seeing a graphic sexual movie that is playing in the car next to you. This scenario is becoming more frequent in cities all across the United States everyday.
According to Arkansas State Statute 5-68-205 “Public Display of Obscenity”, it is a crime when a person knowingly causes obscenity to be displayed in a manner, which is readily visible to the public, and its content or character is distinguishable by normal vision. Public display of obscenity a class C misdemeanor.
Within the last year Texarkana Arkansas Patrolmen have made arrests, after they observed pornographic material being displayed on DVD players in cars, within plain view of the officers and the driving public.
The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department respects each citizen’s rights to privacy. We want to make it clear to those individuals who decide to show pornographic movies that can be seen by the public in their cars that this type of criminal act will not be tolerated.
