Chief Robert Harrison will be presented with a check in the amount of $20,000.00 during a presentation that will be held Monday March 1st at 1:00pm in the Texarkana Arkansas Training Room on the first floor of bi-state. Members of the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency out of Little Rock will present the check to Chief Harrison.
An investigation of drug trafficking through Texarkana during the 2002 Holiday season lead DEA agents to a tractor-trailer parked at the Flying J truck stop. The agents, with the help of local law enforcement seized 1.6 million dollars that was hidden within an undisclosed location of the tractor-trailer.
As part of federal policies when money is seized by a federal agency a portion of the money may be allocated to local law enforcement agencies where the money was seized. The money will be placed in the Federal Forfeiture Asset fund account established by the city. The police department frequently uses forfeiture money such as this to purchase equipment, like radios and police cars. It may also use the money to match grant funding.
