The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department recently received a selective traffic enforcement grant in the amount of $105,000 dollars for DWI, Seat Belt, Speed, and Distracted Driver traffic enforcement. This is a federal grant in the amount of $52,500 with $52,500 in local “in kind” matching funds. This grant is one of the agencies longest running grants with its first pilot project received in 1991. This funding comes from the National Highway Traffic Administration (NTSHA) though the Arkansas Highway Traffic Administration administered by the Arkansas State Police Alcohol Safety Program.
During the 2013 selective traffic safety enforcement grant cycle 203 DWI/DUI arrests were made by TAPD officers working under the grant.
