The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department would like to inform the public of a cell phone text scam occurring throughout the state of Arkansas where individuals have been receiving fraudulent text messages advising their bank debit card has been locked. Additionally the text message includes instructions to call a phone number which solicits information about the individuals debit card number. This specific text comes from a 917 area code which asks the victim to call a 501 number. Once the information is obtained the suspect will contact the financial institution to illegally transfer funds using the victimís identity.
PLEASE DO NOT share information regarding your bank identification and account numbers without verifying that it truly is your bank first. Your bank already has the information that they need and will not solicit information from you without verification.
