In April of 1980 Sgt Billy Jones began his career with the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department. He graduated the Police Academy in May of 1981 becoming a role model in our community and very influential member of our department.
He was promoted to the rank of sergeant April 16, 1989 and has served in many different capacities during his tenure. He has been a Field Training Officer, Field Training Sergeant, detective, crime suppression unit supervisor, a member of the Honor Guard, SWAT Team, and The Awards Committee.
In 1991 he furthered his law enforcement experience by attending the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia for 12 weeks.
He has served as a supervisor in patrol on every shift and in 2006 he was selected to act as Patrol Shift Commander on 1st Shift. This duty is normally assigned to a Lieutenant, but due to transfers within the department he took on the additional responsibility of the job until the position was filled by a lieutenant months later.
It should be noted that Sergeant Jones has been recognized for several achievements during his career. In 1995 he was named Outstanding Peace Officer of the Year by the Evening Optimist Club. He received the Life Saving Award in September of 1999 after braving thick smoke to remove an elderly woman and small child from a burning house.
Sgt. Jones has been a positive influence helping shape the careers of younger officers and supervisors along the way. On March 26, 2011 Sergeant Billy Jones decided to retire with 31 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Texarkana, AR.
