The following is a media announcement in reference to the upcoming Thanksgiving STEP Mobilization. This information can be released immediately:
Texarkana, Arkansas: With the holiday season upon us, millions of Americans are hitting the roadways. The Texarkana Police Department wants everyone to arrive safely at their destinations. The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department will dedicate extra patrols specifically designated to enforce the state’s seat belt laws during the holiday season. The message is clear—Click it or Ticket.
“Nobody wants to start the holiday season off wrong with a ticket,” said Sergeant Todd Harness. “If you violate the state’s seat belt law, expect to receive a ticket,” Harness said.
While seat belt use is at a record high of 85% nationwide, 45 million Americans fail to buckle-up when they get inside a motor vehicle. According to statistics from the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 38 vehicle occupants are killed in motor vehicle crashes every day as a result of not buckling up. In 2008 alone, nearly 13,000 unbuckled motor vehicle occupants lost their lies on U.S. roadways.
“Sadly, the holidays—which for many are among the happiest times of the year—is also one of the deadliest and most tragic,” said Sergeant Harness. “Wearing a seat belt costs you nothing, but not wearing it could cost you a ticket or worse…your life. We want all drivers and passengers to Click it or Ticket.”
