Re: Lt. Avery FBI National Academy

Lt. Doug Avery, of the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department, has returned to the agency after graduating on June 18th, 2010, from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. Lt. Avery has been with TAPD since 1990 and is currently assigned to the Services Division, where he serves as the Assistant Division Commander.

Lt. Avery is one of 260 law enforcement officers who made up the 241st session of the National Academy, which consisted of men and women from 49 states. Included in the class were members of law enforcement agencies from the District of Columbia, 25 international countries, four military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy Program, held at the FBI Academy, offers 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management, and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies. Training is provided by FBI Academy instructional staff, FBI Special Agents, and other staff members who hold advanced degrees and are internationally recognized in their field of expertise.

Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia due to the accreditation by the university of the many courses offered. A total 43, 743 graduates now represent the FBI National Academy since it began in July of 1935. Of this number, approximately 26,231 are still active in law enforcement work.
