The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, along with the Miller County Sheriff’s Department, recently participated with the United States Marshal’s Service (USMS) in “Operation Predator 2010”. The operation lasted throughout the week and focused solely identifying and arresting online child predators.
The mission of the US Marshall’s Service, the Texarkana Police Department and the Miller County Sheriff’s Office, was to conduct internet chat room discussions while posing as underage (Under 15yoa) girls and/or boys. If, while chatting, an adult man or woman solicits, seduces, lures, or entices a meeting for the purpose of any sex act, the objective was to identify that person, and to arrest and file a criminal complaint against that person.
Throughout the month of June officers spent many hours chatting online while posing as a 14 year old male or female. During the hours spent, several sexually illicit contacts were made to the undercover officers. From their efforts, one offender, James Buchanan, W/M 50yoa, of Fouke, was arrested on Thursday, after attempting to pick up an alleged underage female from a residence. Buchanan was arrested and charged with internet stalking of a child, a felony crime.
At this time, warrants have been issued for two local offenders and several additional warrants are expected.
Overall the operation was a success. USMS Agent Cory Harris advised, “If this operation prevents just one child from becoming the victim of a sexual crime, then our work throughout the week will be well worth it.”
