On February 11, 2010, at 10:35am, Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 Block of E. 48th, to investigate a burglary in progress. Witnesses observed a small gray vehicle (that they did not recognize) parked in the driveway of the residence. They also observed an unknown B/M kick in the front door of the residence, enter the home and come out a short time later putting items taken from the house, into the gray vehicle. Corporal Denise Wilder was the first officer to arrive at burglarized and she saw a B/M start to come out the front door, and then quickly close the door when he saw her. She ran to the back of the house and saw the B/M jumping the fence in the back yard, headed south through the yards, toward E. 47th street. Cpl. Wilder advised other officers of this information via her radio and officers quickly surrounded the area.
Lieutenant Sam Tirrito was on E. 42nd Street and saw a B/M (matching the description given by Cpl. Wilder) start to come out of the woods. When the suspect saw Lt. Tirrito, he ran back into the woods, running north. Sergeant Nick Elrod was on E. 47th Street and saw the suspect come out of the woods. Sgt. Elrod and Officer Billy Smith were able to take the suspect into custody after a brief struggle. The suspect was identified as Tamarcus Miles, B/M, 18 yoa, of Texarkana.
Officers returned to the scene of the burglary to begin their investigation. They found several items in the vehicle that did not come from the residence on E. 48th. A short time later, Officers were dispatched to a house in the 3700 block of Belmont on a burglary call. The rest of the items found in the suspect vehicle were stolen from the residence on Belmont, therefore, Mr. Miles was charged with this burglary also.
Mr. Miles is charged with the following crimes; Burglary (Felony), Theft of Property o/ $500 (Felony), Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor), and Fleeing (Misdemeanor).
